FAQ: Surgical & Aesthetic Medical Procedures

Q:

What services does Better Health Medical Group offer?

A:

Better Health provides a host of services from cosmetic and skin rejuvenation to relaxing day spa services to comprehensive chiropractic and acupuncture treatments.  Download a copy of The Better Health Medical Group brochure. The brochure contains a full list of treatments with prices as well as general information about our medical group and day spa.

Q:

What therapy is recommended for facial spider veins?

A:

Laser therapy of facial spider veins is the treatment of choice. Laser treatment may cause minor bruising which usually improves within a week, but often, recovery is immediate. Two to four treatments may be required to achieve your desired result. Immediately following treatment, you may apply makeup and will be presentable.

Q:

What is the expected duration of the spider vein therapy?

A:

Regardless of treatment, you should anticipate the development of new spider veins over time, just as you would if your spider veins had not been treated. Spider vein therapy treats current spider veins but does not prevent new ones.

FAQ: CHIROPRACTIC SERVICES

Q:

What typical types of procedures do Chiropractors perform?

A:

The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as ãspinal manipulation,ä also called ãchiropractic adjustment.ä   The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile ö or restricted in their movement ö as a result of a tissue injury.

Q:

How does injury occur?

A:

Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Q:

Do Chiropractic adjustments or manipulations hurt?

A:

Chiropractic adjustment rarely causes discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (as with some forms of exercise) that usually resolves within 12 to 48 hours.  In many cases, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care may be the primary method of treatment. When other medical conditions exist, chiropractic care may complement or support medical treatment by relieving the musculoskeletal aspects associated with the condition.

Q:

How do you determine if chiropractic treatments are needed?

A:

Doctors of chiropractic may assess patients through clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate Chiropractors will readily refer patients to the appropriate health care provider when chiropractic care is not suitable for the patientâs condition, or the condition warrants co-management in conjunction with other members of the health care team.

Q:

Do insurance plans cover chiropractic services and other physical therapy treatments?

A:

The majority of all insured workers have coverage for chiropractic services in their health care insurance plans.   Better Health Medical Group does accept most major healthcare insurance carriers.

Q:

Do chiropractic treatment require a referral from a medical physician such as an MD or DO?

A: No, a patient does not need referral by an MD or DO before visiting a doctor of chiropractic.  At Better Health; however, our clinical provider staff work as a team and will often consult and treat patients in a comprehensive program tailored specifically for that patient. Following a consultation and examination, the doctor of chiropractic will arrive at a diagnosis under chiropractic care and provide a detailed ongoing treatment plan and/or refer the patient to the appropriate health care provider.

Q:

Does acupuncture hurt?

A:

No, there is little sensitivity to the insertion of acupuncture needles, since they are 25 times thinner than typical hypodermic needles.

Q:

How deep do acupuncture needles go?

A:

Acupuncture points are located near or on the surface of the skin.  Usually needles are inserted from ¹ to 1 inch in depth.  The depth of insertion will depend on the nature of the condition being treated with variation based on the patientsâ size, age, and overall constitution.

Q:

Are acupuncture needles ever inserted deeper than one inch?

A:

Yes, in some situations, there is a need for deeper insertion.  For example, in order to treat sciatica, the meridians are located on the buttocks and the needle is usually inserted up to three to four inches.

Q:

How does the treatment feel?

A:

While some people feel nothing at all; others experience a brief moment of discomfort as the needles penetrates the skin that can be followed by a mild sensation of cramping, tingling, numbness, traveling warmth, or heaviness.  The needles are left in place for twenty to forty minutes.  Most people find the experience extremely relaxing and uplifting and even fall asleep for the duration of the treatment.

Q:

Am I likely to get an infection from the needles?

A: No, this is not a common occurrence.  All of the acupuncture needles are for single use only and disposed of immediately.
